Paul McElroy head shotPaul McElroy 3

It is with great pleasure we announce the signing of Paul McElroy who returns to Dungannon Swifts after departing the Club as a teenager for Hull City six years ago.  Paul, a native of Dungannon, signed for the English Club after previously making a few appearances for the Swifts first team before he left.

McElroy is a tricky, fast paced winger who will bring plenty of positives with him to Stangmore Park, most importantly making Darren Murphy a very happy man to have secured his signature. Having been on the books of both Linfield and Portadown last season, Paul can’t wait to get involved back at the place he refers to as ‘home’.

A very happy Paul spoke to us this afternoon;

“It feels good to be home. There was talk about me coming back to the Swifts last year when I returned from England but that didn’t work out due to a few personal issues. Now that I am here I can’t wait to get involved, I’ve signed on that dotted line and that’s me ready to go! The facilities here are top drawer and right up there with a number of venues I’ve played at in the past. Murph (Darren Murphy) and Rod (Rodney McAree) will be fantastic to work with as I’ve already got an insight into during pre season. I know quite a few of the current Swifts squad, I played with some of them in my youth days in Dungannon. Dougie Wilson was at Hull with me and some other boys I played with for Northern Ireland. I’ll just finish with saying again, it’s just great to finally be home!”

A very happy first team coach Rodney McAree expressed his delight in the signing of our latest addition;

“I am delighted to now have Paul McElroy as part of our squad, he came through Dungannon United Youth, he’s a local lad, he brings a lot of qualities along with him. The delivery into the box from him is second to none, he is athletic and will be able to offer us different options, in different formations if we wish to go down that line. He is an attacking player who will add width, goals, creativity and he’s also a hard working lad. The fact he is a local lad will hopefully mean he will be able to bring some of the local people along with him to support Dungannon Swifts, their local club!”

Welcome back to Dungannon Paul and we wish you every success in your Swifts jersey. Good luck from everyone at DSFC.
