All eyes will be on Nyon this afternoon as Dungannon Swifts’ European opponents are revealed.
Excitement has been building since Rodney McAree’s side booked their place in Europe after winning the Irish Cup on May 3 and our European pathway is starting to emerge after UEFAs communications this morning.
Already, from more than 40 potential opponents, Dungannon know they will face one of nine teams because of a preliminary draw that took place early this morning at UEFA Headquarters.
Dungannon are among the unseeded teams in group four.
They have five potential ties.
But, with the winner of four of the five matches only being determined after the first qualifying round, there are nine potential opponents.
These are
1) The winners of NSÍ Runavík (Faroe Islands) vs HJK Helsinki (Finland)
2) The winners of 2 FC Malisheva (Kosovo) vs Víkingur Reykjavík (Iceland)
3) The winners of 3 SS Tre Fiori F.C. (San Marino) vs FC Pyunik (Armenia)
4) FC Vaduz (Liechtenstein)
5) The winners of FC Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) vs BK Häcken (Sweden)
So, unless Dungannon are drawn against FC Vaduz, they will have to wait until the first qualifying round is completed on July 17 to be sure of their opponents.
At the moment, the draw is due to take place at 1pm UK time in Nyon.
The match days are July 24 and 31
Match dates and kick-off times will be confirmed by June 23.
