Pictured L-R: Chairman, Keith Boyd, Head Coach – Rodney McAree and Rhyss Campbell signing his three year contract.
Teenage forward Rhyss Campbell who tonight won the Mid Ulster Youth Cup, obtained his Dankse Bank Premiership League Debut v Glentoran last week and scored his first senior goal against Warrenpoint on Saturday past, has been rewarded with a three year contract at Dungannon Swifts by head coach Rodney McAree.
After a season working hard in the Under 20’s with sheer determination it has paid off massively for Campbell, a science student at South West College, Dungannon.
“Signing a 3 year deal is a proud moment for myself as I have put a lot of hard work into trying to be the very best I can be, so on a personal level I am over the moon to sign the 3 year deal with Dungannon Swifts. I started Dungannon United youth at the age of 11 and my aim was one day to be playing for Dungannon Swifts and finally now I am doing that. Overall I personally would like to say a huge credit goes to the coaches and managers for always believing in my ability over the years, for that I am eternally grateful.”
Rodney McAree was in attendance at Stangmore Park tonight to watch Campbell and his team mates defeat Cookstown Youth 3-1 in the Mid Ulster Youth Cup, to retain the trophy for a second season.
Speaking of the highly talented teenager Campbell, McAree said;
“He has deserved his contract, his attitude all season and how he has applied himself has earned him this deal, Rhyss is a huge talent and we are seeing the rewards of his hard work and dedication! I believe he can go on to bigger and better things in the future, he reminds me massively of a Niall McGinn.”
Congratulations on your contract Rhyss. We look forward to watching you continue to play in a Swifts Jersey for many more years.

The Chairman and Committee of Dungannon Swifts FC is delighted to announce that agreement has been reached with Head Coach, Rodney McAree to extend his contract by a further 3 years. The new agreement will run to the end of the 2020 / 21 season.
Club Chairman, Keith Boyd, recognises the committement and passion that Rodney has shown throughout the Club and further through to Dungannon United Youth. Boyd has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure he keeps hold of, Dungannon born and bred, McAree at the Swifts despite strong interest in McAree from other footballing circles.
Chairman Boyd has expressed his own personal delight on behalf of the Club.
“I have been aware of the talk and interest regarding Rodney (McAree) in recent weeks which has caused a few doubts in the minds of people in the local area as to whether or not Rodney will still be with us next season or not. I can now finally put those doubts well and truly out the window as I can confirm to you that Rodney has today signed a three year contract extension as Manager (Head Coach) of Dungannon Swifts Football Club. I have great faith in Rodney as a coach and believe he has still a lot to get out of our current squad of players. I have spoken to him at length regards the future of DSFC and he has informed me of plans he has in the pipeline for next season that he has been thinking about already. Hopefully you will come out and support Rodney and his team today and for our remaining few games this season.”
Speaking about his decision to remain at Stangmore Park this is what Rodney McAree had to say;
“I am very happy that I have agreed to commit my immediate future to Dungannon Swifts, I am extremely ambitious to further my career as a coach or head coach but at this moment I felt the best available option for myself was here at Stangmore, I have a wonderful changing room and backroom staff who have been a major part in making my decision, a very supportive Chairman and board who have shown faith in me to offer me this contract. Our target is to continue to improve and challenge ourselves to do better and to make our super supporters even more proud!”
As a club we are delighted with this extremely positive news and we look forward to continuing our future together with Rodney McAree as Dungannon Swifts Head Coach for the next three seasons.
