Goalkeeper Hughes Signs for Swifts

Rodney McAree is delighted to have signed Liam Hughes for Dungannon Swifts FC.

Pictured left to right, under 20s manager Dixie Robinson, first team head coach Rodney McAree and Chairman Keith Boyd. Seated, Liam Hughes.

“I think its a fantastic achievement for Dungannon Swifts to have attracted Liam Hughes to the Club, he is one of, if not, the best U18 Goalkeepers in Northern Ireland, and he is a couple of years younger than that. He has already achieved a premiership appearance with Portadown last season and he comes to us with some great recommendations. We have also watched him on many occasions and are delighted as a club to have a prospect like Liam joining us at Dungannon Swifts FC.”

Liam is looking forward to joining up with his new Swifts team mates after he has fulfilled his duties with the County Armagh Premier Super Cup NI Team. The Swifts have already a number of players in the same squad, and we wish them well during the tournament.

Liam told us “I am looking forward to taking this great opportunity, Dungannon Swifts has a great set up with great coaches and very professional facilities. I am also looking forward to being part of the County Armagh Super Cup NI Squad and it will be great to play against some of the best young players from around the world.”

Rodney will be keeping an eye on his new signing at the Super Cup, along with the other Dungannon Swifts Players involved with all the county sides.

Rodney added, “We were very keen to sign such a great young prospect as Liam, especially as he plays in such a specialist position. We felt it necessary to sign him on a professional contract so we knew he would be part of our squad for the next 3 seasons, at least.”

Welcome to Dungannon Swifts Liam.

We would like to take the opportunity to wish Jamie Glackin well as he makes the switch to North Belfast side, Crusaders FC.

Jamie signed for us in August 2012 after having played superbly for County Tyrone in the Milk Cup. Despite being offered a new contact by the club Jamie has opted to sign for Crusaders.

All the best in the future Jamie and thanks for your commitment during your five seasons at Stangmore Park.

Young Forward agrees new deal

Young Forward agrees new deal

Young starlet Thomas Roscoe has tonight agreed a new deal at Stangmore Park. This tops off a successful week in which Thomas obtained his Northern Ireland Cap on Friday night along with other Swifts player, Caolin Coyle.

Roscoe who has impressed at under 20 & 17 level over the past few seasons is a joy to watch in the eyes of Swifts head coach McAree and he wanted to get talented Thomas signed on the books again.

Thomas was a Centenary Shield Winner with his Northern Ireland School boys team from this year.

Thomas featured in our final league game of last season against Portadown and on another day could have been going home with a hat trick, he showed maturity and ability beyond his years.

Keep your eyes open for Thomas next season as we might just see quite a bit more of him! Good luck and all the best Thomas.
