Defender Christopher Hegarty has made his January loan deal from Linfield permanent. The twenty three year old who first started out as a ball boy for Dungannon as a youngster,  signed a two year deal at Stangmore Park tonight.

Speaking to us a delighted Hegarty said,

“I’ll be looking forward to getting started again in June. I think it’s going to be a big season for us. I’m really looking forward to it. I think the end of season came a wee bit quick for us, the form that we were in at the end showed the capabilities that we have within our squad and I look forward to going on to to bigger and better things.”

“Rod knows he plays a big part in me signing permanently . I enjoy the way he has us playing and wants us to play. Obviously the way all the lads group together within the squad is a massive influence. I’ve never been involved in any team like it who get on so well with each other. In fact everyone throughout the club, if they all continue to pull in the direction they are going and stand by the club, things can only get even better. If you’re ever talking to anyone outside the club they always say its a great club to come to. That has obviously helped me stand by my decision.”

“I think it was a no brainier for myself coming to Dungannon, as it’s my home town club, I’m from a couple of mile down the road. It’s my club and I wanted to do well for them when I came here on loan. We were sitting in a place when I arrived that I felt was a false position, the work that had gone on at this club from players and staff from the start of the season didn’t reflect the league position. I wanted to get us to where we should be and I think I helped do that. I enjoyed myself because we were winning games and I felt personally that I done well. When I’m enjoying my football, I don’t see any reason why I should change that!”

An even happier man tonight was Head Coach Rodney McAree.

“Building on the back of last season and how we finished the season itself, I think it was vitally important to try and keep hold of our best players. In the second half of last season Christopher Hegarty was superb and one of our best players. I am delighted to have acquired his signature with the winning mentality that he has and the leadership qualities he has he will certainly help the rest of the boys in the changing room achieve bigger and better things. He fits in very well because of his personality and he is well thought of among the lads. Hopefully we can build on this signing with one or two others, or maybe holding on to one or two as well. This would give us an opportunity to build on last season and try to achieve more than we have done in recent years.”

We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate Christopher on signing his new deal. We look forward to watching him continue to enjoy his football and grow from strength to strength as the season progresses. Good luck and all the best ‘Hegzy’!

Gary Liggett is the first player to leave Stangmore Park, ahead of the 2016/17 Season, as he has not been offered a new contract by Head Coach Rodney McAree.

We would like to thank Gary for all his efforts and goals as part of Dungannon Swifts playing staff and we wish him every success for the future. Thanks Gary.

Goalkeeper Stuart Addis (pictured above left) and midfielder Cormac Burke (pictured above right) have signed new contracts which will see them commit to the club for a further two seasons from now.

McAree expressed his delighted at securing the signatures of both players,

“Stuart (Addis) provides great experience and competition for the number one shirt with Andy (Coleman) and is a highly reliable keeper who we are fortunate to have within the squad! Burkey (Cormac Burke), who has shown terrific commitment has done fantastically well and I’m delighted to secure his services for the initial future, he’s a young lad who has so much talent and has so much more to give!”

Addis and Burke joined the Swifts last summer under previous Manager Darren Murphy when McAree was First Team Coach. As current Manager McAree obviously is pleased with how they have both progressed and will hopefully continue to do well at the Club.

We wish Stuart and Cormac continued success in a Dungannon Swifts shirt. Good luck to you both!
