Danske Bank Premiership - Dungannon Swifts v LinfieldDungannon Swifts have announced that long serving club Captain Johnny Montgomery will be leaving the club this summer when his contract expires. Johnny who is currently 39 years of age has been with the club his entire senior career bar two short spells with Glenavon FC.

Swifts Manager Darren Murphy expressed his own personal thanks to Montgomery:

“I would like to go on record and thank Johnny for the outstanding contribution he has made to the football club. Johnny is one player who has played and seen the club rise from the old ‘B’ Division to the heights of 4th in the Irish Premier League. I had the opportunity to play with Johnny at both Glenavon and Dungnanon Swifts, he was a whole hearted defender, who always gave 100% and had a great desire to win. When he looks back on his career at Dungannon Swifts he can be proud of his achievements. First Division Winner, Ulster Cup Winner, Mid Ulster Cup Winner, Irish Cup Final 2005, Setanta Cup matches and Captaining Dungannon Swifts in Europe. Finally I would like to wish Johnny all the very best for the future and thank him for the support he has given me in my time as first team coach and Manager of Dungannon Swifts.”

A further Club statement will be released over the next few days.

pe_00307740Pat McGibbon has stepped down as first team coach of Dungannon Swifts. Unfortunately due to other commitments Pat felt he could no longer devote the time to coaching our first team.

First team Manager Darren Murphy  has expressed his own thanks towards Pat:

“I would like to thank Pat for all his help and support that he has given me and the team from early November time. It was a great boost for the club having someone of his calibre in to coach the boys but I fully understand his decision and wish him all the best for the future.”

As a club we would like to thank Pat  for everything he has been involved with since stepping into the role in November 2012.  You will always be welcome at Stangmore, Pat. Good luck.

We will actively seek a replacement for Pat over the coming days.
