Dungannon Swifts have placed defender Ryan O’Neill on the transfer list.

In other news we will not be renewing winger Neal Gawley’s contract. Neal spent one season with the club and unlucky for him suffered a number of injuries and found it difficult to regain a first team position. We would like to thank Neal for all his commitment and service to the club and we wish him well for the future.

Striker ‘Doyle’ Signs Two Year Deal for Swifts

stephen doyle longerWe are pleased to announce a fourth new addition to the playing squad for the 2012/13 season, former Ards striker, Stephen Doyle, has signed for two years.

Twenty-three year old Cookstown lad is a product of Dungannon United Youth and has spent the past few seasons playing for Ards in the Championship whilst also having fitted in a spell at Loughgall.

Speaking to us this evening Stephen said, ” I couldn’t turn down the fantastic opportunity of playing Premiership football that Murph presented me with. I grew up coming through the ranks at Dungannon United Youth and as I come from Cookstown the closest Premiership Club to me is The Swifts.  Just like every other lad in Cookstown I wanted to play for the Swifts. I am delighted to be getting the chance to be a first team player again. The facilities at Dungannon are some of the best in the country and they certainly helped make the decision very easy for me, even though Murph had already sold the club well to me. All I have left to say now is that I’m looking forward to getting involved in a matter of weeks at Stangmore Park and hopefully we can improve on the league position from last season.”

Welcome to Stangmore Park Stephen and we wish you every success in a Swifts Shirt.

New Signing McCullough Eager to Get Involved

David McCulloughDungannon Swifts are pleased to announce the signing of mid fielder David McCullough on a two year deal.

Twenty-six year old David  is the third addition to the squad at Stangmore Park. He joins the Swifts after having played most recently for Lisburn Distillery and previously Portadown.

“A player who every manager would love on their team” is how Murphy described the versatile McCullough. Murphy has watched McCullough grow stronger as a player through the years in the Irish League and has always admired him as a player.

McCullough, from Dromore,  is eager to get started with the Swifts, “Murph has been a real praiser of the club and this made it easy for me to decide to come to the Swifts.  Since I started playing Irish League Football as an 18 year old I’ve played alongside Murph for Portadown and against him on many occasions. I already know a number of the players which will make it easier for me to fit in. I think the club has fantastic facilities in place that any player would love to have available to them at their club. The new training pitch is a great addition to an already well ran club, which has many good people around it.  I am now just so eager to get involved when pre season comes round.”

Welcome to Stangmore Park David and we wish you every success in a Swifts shirt.

Ricky Copeland signingDarren Murphy has wasted no time in making his second signing for the new season ahead. Twenty Seven year old, central defender, Ricky Copeland formerly of Newry City and Loughgall has agreed a two year deal at Stangmore Park.

Copeland, from Dromore, has been a target of Murphy’s and he is delighted to have got him on board, saying “The signing of Ricky comes as a positive boost for the club having lost Emmet Friars at the end of the season. I am delighted to get someone of Ricky’s experience at the club. He is a solid and reliable player who is also a Northern Ireland Junior International player. I am looking forward to the season ahead to watch Ricky in action for the Swifts.”

Ricky spent eighteen months at Newry City and then moved to Loughgall in January 2012. Speaking after signing for the club last night, Ricky said,

“I’ve always liked Dungannon Swifts and I thought it was a great club. Having watched the Swifts play on numerous occasions I know that I will really enjoy the style of football played here. Pat (McGibbon- Swifts Coach), who I worked with at Newry City, has kept in contact with me since Newry folded last season. He has helped me make footballing decisions and this is one I am delighted to have made. Murph has made the decision easy for me in selling the club fantastically well to me in every aspect, both on the pitch and off it.  All I now want to do is get back enjoying my football and I feel the Swifts is the best place for me.”

Welcome to Stangmore Park Ricky and we wish you every success in a Swifts shirt.
